K&D Wedding - A Capitol Hill Love Story

It was just a treat to work with Kate & Dan on their wedding day, they were so fun! They happiness and humor was infectious!

About the Couple:
How did they meet?:
They met working on Capitol Hill – in the Senate – working for two different Senators. Interestingly enough, they found out they had a lot in common- both went to GW for undergraduate school and graduated the same year, but didn’t know each other!

Dan didn’t know who Kate was (after they had met) for about 3 months. She had to reintroduce herself when they met again. On their first date, he took Kate to Chinese food (which she dislikes) He ate and I talked – the same has occurred ever since! Kate was hesitant about accepting to go a second date, but after her friend (from GW who knew us both) encouraged her to give it another try…the rest is history.

How did Dan Propose?:
On a trip visiting Dan’s parents in  California. Kate ruined his original plan – to propose in a park during a run – so he proposed when they were waking up on Christmas morning.

The couple resides in downtown Washington enjoy spending their time together laughing and having fun time!

About Wedding:
The couple want to feel classic elegant, but with a modern casual feel. They wanted to get married to a place near and dear to their heart [Capitol Hill] so The Flying Bridge Lounge was a natural fit, with one of the best and iconic views of the Capitol building and Union Station. Kate opted out from having a bridal party and did use a bouquet. Dan decided wear a tux but rather a tailored grey suit. After a few half hour of mingling with guests, Dan’s father started the wedding ceremony by playing the cello. They causally came up and their guest picked a seat. After a short ceremony, the wedding celebration started dancing. Kate and Dan’s  main concern was that their friends and family enjoy the celebration. For their first dance they made a mash up of John Legend “All of Me” and Stevie Wonder “Signed Sealed Delivered.” They opted out of having a traditional cake, and had had a decadent berries and crème fraiche peanut brittle dessert made by Ken’s Creative Kitchen. The couple literally dance the night away.
